Airlines ETFs are the exchange-traded funds which focus on the airline sector. These exchange-traded funds invest in a variety of companies having business operations directly or indirectly associated with the airline industry. This article lists the various airline ETFs available for trading in the U.S. markets. Most of the airline stocks are included in the larger Transportation sector ETFs. Among the large variety of various airline linked businesses, the first and foremost airline business is that of operating a fleet of airlines to transport people and goods from one place to the other. These are companies like the Delta Airlines, Ryan Air, Emirates or British Airways. However, airline business expands beyond these airline companies. It also includes companies which are in cargo movement - that is, those moving goods through airlines. Then there are companies which offer associated services - like baggage handling, cargo handling, airport operating companies, airport security and maintenance companies, airplane maintenance companies and food caterers and suppliers. Airline ETFs are also known for being a proxy to the oil sector and the overall economic sentiment. (See list of Oil ETFs and list of Inverse Oil ETFs.) The better the economy and business scenario, the more people are expected to travel via airlines for both business and holidays, and the transfer of goods and products is also expected on the higher side. The price of crude oil directly impacts the prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), which in turn impacts the performance of airline stock prices. At times, investors may also prefer taking positions in oil and gas sector ETFs instead of investing in airline ETFs. For more, see List of Airlines Stocks.
