Growth exchange-traded funds (ETF) invest in growth-oriented companies. Simply put, these are the ETFs that pick stocks and other financial instruments of those companies which aim to achieve high growth, or at least appear to have the potential to do so. Securities targeted by such growth-centric funds are believed to have certain growth characteristics - which may be indicated by a consistent increase in their sales and revenues over past several quarters, comparatively higher price-to-earnings ratios, and similar such measures. Growth ETFs work opposite of Value ETFs, which are the funds that pay regular dividends to shareholders. One can also explore the list of Blend ETFs, which offer a mixed bag of both growth and dividend-paying value stocks. Following is the list of all 166 exchange-traded funds that FKnol has in its database for ETFs which belong to the Growth category:

The ETF managers of such growth ETFs may employ their own research to pick and choose the promising growth stocks which qualify on the criteria set by the fund house and meets the stated investment objective of the fund. This approach, where the manager follows their own method to select stocks, is called active investment strategy to pick stocks for growth focused ETFs. Other approach may involve following a passive investment strategy and simply follow a particular stock market index which is focused on growth stocks. Such ETFs purchase the stocks in exact proportion in which they are the part of the market index which is structured to include only high potential growth companies. In general, growth stocks attempt to generate higher than average positive cash flows consistently. Their profits, earnings and revenues are expected to increase quarter-on-quarter at a much faster rate when compared to the average growth rate achieved by the overall market, or the overall sector-specific average to which the company belongs. Growth stocks attempt to achieve this feat by re-investing the profits and earnings they generate. Therefore, instead of paying dividends to the shareholders or going for other cash outflow activities like share buyback, these companies plough back the money into the company's business. This increased investment helps (or is expected to) increase the returns, which can have the potential to generate above-average returns as compared to the overall market or the specific industry sector.
