Updated Jul 23, 2021

USA ETF Screener:

Despite the high volatility in the stock prices of software comapnies, they continue to remain the most attractive investment stream. In fact, one of the most tracked NASDAQ index is highly skewed in favor of technology companies. There are heavyweights like FAANG stocks that indicate the importance technology and software has in the investment world.
However, owing to the highly dynamic nature of the technology space, it is difficult for the average Joe investor to pick and choose the right software company. Software exchange-traded funds (ETF) comes to the rescue of such investors, as they allow spreading the invested capital across multiple companies yet keep the costs low for end investors as the latter only needs to pay for one single purchase in the form of expense ratio.
Following is the list of all 10 exchange-traded funds that FKnol has in its database for ETFs which belong to the Software category:

How Software ETFs Work?

Simply put, Software ETFs use the investors' money to purchase stocks belonging to the software sector. Amid ever-changing needs of the software industry, investing through software ETFs has emerged as one of the most efficient methods to invest in software companies.
However, one must note that when you invest through a software ETF, what you get is the average return of the overall basket of the money invested in various software companies. While it may be exciting to see Facebook or Microsoft gaining 25 percent individually, those investing through software-specific ETFs may get lower returns as the above-average positive gains by a few stocks may be nullified by negative gains of the other stocks in the basket. The same phenomenon prevent investors during downturns. Investing in individual software stocks may be dangerous as their declines will lead to big losses, while investing through software ETFs will prevent complete or big erosion of capital as investors will get average returns.

Where do Software ETFs Invest?

A long list of companies and different financial instruments exist where the Software exchange-traded funds may invest the money collected from the ETF investors. Below is a small sample of companies whose stocks may qualify for investment by Software ETFs, though there can be many more businesses and financial instruments where these ETFs can park the capital for returns:
