List of Inverse Market Cap ETFs of USA 2024

Updated Apr 15, 2024

USA ETF Screener:

A few innovative ETFs exist that try to turn the standard market-cap weighting method over its head - that is, they assign the weights to the constituent stocks such that their weights are in reverse order. For instance, a constituent stock which ranks the lowest in terms of the weight in a standard index like S&P 500 or the Dow Jones index, will be given the maximum weight in the inverse market cap ETF. Similarly, the constituent that will have the maximum (top-ranking) weight in the benchmark index will be given the lowest weight in the reverse ETF. They are also called the Reverse-Cap-Weighted Index ETFs.

How Inverse Market Cap ETFs Work?

Such strategic ETFs offer a unique and innovative mode of investing. They tend to support the growth prospects of companies. They are based on the premise that the companies which are on the lower rungs of a leading index have the potention to grow at a higher rate and are expected to become blockcuster performers as compared to the top rated companies which may be hitting saturation. That's why such companies are assigned higher weights while those at the top in the benchmark index are assigned lower weights.
However, these should not be confused with the inverse index, which offer a negative return for the positive return generated from the underlying index.
