The core of large-cap blend ETFs is the 'blend' strategy which refers to taking an investment approach through a combination of growth stocks and income paying stocks. It involves selecting a balanced mix of value and growth stocks. Value stocks are those which usually pay a high amount of dividends at regular intervals which comes from the earnings and profits a company makes. Such value stocks usually have a high dividend yield, low price-to-book ratio and/or a low price-to-earnings ratio. However, since money is distributed to the shareholders and effectively goes out of the company in the form of dividend payments, the investors don't get the benefit of growth potential. Growth stocks are the ones which usually don't pay regular dividends and instead re-invest the available earnings and profits back into the company's business. While the investors in growth stocks lose out on regular and frequent dividend receipts, they can expect to benefit big in terms of appreciation in the stock price of the company shares as the re-invested capital can be expected to generated better returns. Since the blend ETFs combine both these kind of investment strategies, such blend ETFs attempt to offer investors a good level of diversification among the value and growth stocks through a single ETF holding. In terms of available variety of blend ETF investments, the investors are spoilt for a choice. As of writing, more than 1,100 blend ETFs are available in the FKnol database.
