The world has always been hungry for energy. Cold locations need energy for heating, and hot ones need energy for cooling. Residences, commercials, industries, vehicles, and every possible economic, social or commercial activity needs power. Thousands of companies across the globe are in the energy generation and supply business, allowing a big pool of options for interested investors to choose from. Energy exchange-traded funds (ETF) make their lives easier. They invest in a select basket of energy stocks or other financial instruments and attempt to generate good returns for the investors. A lot of variety is available in the energy sector, which covers Crude oil, Solar energy, Clean energy, Biofuels, Natural gas and Renewable energy. These are category specific ETFs which focus on that particular energy subsector. Following is the list of all 69 exchange-traded funds that FKnol has in its database for ETFs which belong to the Energy category:

In the simplest forms, the energy ETFs use the money collected from investors to invest in stocks of companies that belong to the energy sector. They may also invest in other financial instruments, like forwards and futures, of the energy sector. If the energy ETF is actively managed, then the fund manager and their research team will pick and choose the energy securities to invest in based on their own research. If the energy ETF is passively managed, then it is deemed to follow the underlying benchmark energy index it is tracking. Its holdings will replicate the constituent stocks of the benchmark energy index in the same proportion as that of the index. Other energy ETFs may be leveraged, that is - they may invest in future, options and other energy related derivatives - to magnify the returns generated by a given factor. (See list of Leveraged Enegy ETFs.)
