Updated May 1, 2024

USA ETF Screener:

Amid a large variety of exchange-traded funds (ETF) which exist in the market, a good number belong to the Commodities sector. Such ETFs are those which invest in the stocks of companies belonging to the commodities sector. These ETFs may also invest in related financial securities (like futures and options) which are based on similar commodities stocks or popular market index which are specific to the commodities sector. One must note that since commodities is a generic term which includes a big variety, care should be taken to ensure that the Commodities ETF they select for investment makes a good fit for their investment purpose.
Following is the list of all 60 exchange-traded funds that FKnol has in its database for ETFs which belong to the Commodities category:

USA ETF Screener:

How Commodities ETFs Work?

A lot of variety is available for Commodities ETFs because commodities may span across metals, energy, agriculture and livestock, or a combination of those. Few commodities ETF are focused on specific sectors, like metal or agriculture products, or may be generic which can include any and all kinds of commodities.
One should also check the type of financial securities these commodities ETFs invest in. A few commodities ETFs may invest the capital into listed stocks belonging to the commodity companies, while others may play around in a defined and systematic manner in the derivatives space, like futures and options. Another variety may follow a passive strategy and simply invest in stocks that belong to a particular commodity index, or they may actually hold the physical commodity like wheat, oil, corn or oranges.
Additionally, a big variety exists in terms of leveraged ETFs which attempt to magnify the returns by a factor (like 2x or 3x), there are inverse ETFs belonging to the commodities sector which attempt to generate returns which are inverse of the returns generated by the benchmark index (-1x), and there are a few that offer a combination of leveraged and inverse Commodities ETF (like -3x returns.)
