The E. W. Scripps Company, incorporated on December 1, 1987, is a media enterprise with interests in television and radio broadcasting, as well as local and national digital media brands. The Company's segments include television, radio, digital, and syndication and other. The Company serves audiences and businesses through a portfolio of television, radio and digital media brands. It also has a collection of local and national digital journalism and information businesses. It also produces television programming, investigative reporting newsroom in Washington, District of Columbia (D.C.) and serves educational program, the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Television

As of December 31, 2016, the Television segment included approximately 15 American Broadcasting Company (ABC) affiliates, five National Broadcasting Company (NBC) affiliates, two FOX affiliates, two Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) affiliates and four non big-four affiliated stations. As of December 31, 2016, the Company also owned five Azteca America Spanish-language affiliates. It produces news, information and entertainment content that informs and engages local and national communities. As of December 31, 2016, the Company distributed its content on four platforms, including broadcast, Internet, smartphones and tablets. National television networks offer affiliates a range of programs and sells advertising within those programs. In addition to news programming, its television stations run network programming, syndicated programming and internally produced programming. It sells advertising to local, national and political customers. In addition to selling commercials during its programming, it also offers marketing opportunities for its business customers, including sponsorships and community events.

Radio

As of December 31, 2016, the radio segment owned 34 radio stations in eight markets. As of December 31, 2016, the Company operated 28 frequency modulation (FM) stations and six Amplitude Modulation (AM) stations. Radio segment is engaged in the sale of advertising to local advertisers. Its radio stations focuses on providing targeted and relevant local programming. Its Milwaukee radio station, WTMJ-AM, maintains radio broadcast rights for the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers and operates a statewide network for their games.

Digital

The digital segment includes the digital operations of its local television and radio businesses. It also includes the operations of national digital businesses, such as Newsy, an over-the-top (OTT) video news service, and Midroll, a podcast industry. Its digital operations include sale of advertising and marketing services. Its digital segment includes a collection of local and national digital brands. The local brands consist of its television and radio station Websites, as well as the related smartphone and tablet applications, which earn revenues from advertising sales and related digital advertising products and marketing services.
