Orion Engineered Carbons S.A., incorporated on May 2, 2011, is a producer of carbon black. The Company operates through two segments: Specialty Carbon Black and Rubber Carbon Black. The Specialty Carbon Black segment is engaged in the production of specialty carbon black. The Rubber Carbon Black segment is involved in the production of rubber carbon black. As of December 31, 2016, it operated a diversified carbon black business with over 280 specialty carbon black grades and approximately 80 rubber carbon black grades. Carbon black is used as a pigment and as a performance additive in coatings, polymers, printing and special applications (specialty carbon black), and in the reinforcement of rubber in tires and mechanical rubber goods (rubber carbon black). As of December 31, 2016, it operated a global platform of 13 production facilities in Europe, North and South America, Asia and South Africa and three sales companies, as well as one jointly-owned production plant in Germany.

Specialty Carbon Black

The Company manufactures specialty carbon black at various sites for specialized applications. The Specialty Carbon Black segment's product mix includes sectors, such as Coatings, Polymers, Printing and Special Applications. Its Coatings product portfolio includes products used for pigmentation in pure black coatings, for conductivity and for tinting in all other coatings, as well as for paints and for light tinting in transparent coatings. Applications for its coatings products include automotive, such as automotive original equipment manufacturing, automotive refinish and automotive parts; general industrial, such as wood, coil and plastic coatings, protective and marine, and aerospace packaging, and architectural and decorative. Coatings-related specialty carbon black products are manufactured in Cologne (Germany), Yeosu (South Korea) and Belpre (Ohio), as well as at the German joint venture (JV) in Dortmund (Germany). Its Coatings products are offered under various brands, such as PRINTEX, NEROX, LAMP BLACK, GAS BLACK and SPECIAL BLACK.

The Company's polymers applications products are manufactured in Cologne (Germany), Malmo (Sweden), Yeosu (South Korea), Bupyeong (South Korea), Belpre (Ohio), Borger (Texas) and Paulinia (Brazil), as well as at the German JV in Dortmund (Germany). Its polymers products offer ultraviolet (UV) protection. Along with UV protection, its portfolio includes products designed and modified to provide electrical conductivity, antistatic and reinforcing properties to various different polymers articles, including high-voltage cables, films, boxes and high pressure pipes. Applications for its products include pipe, such as pressure pipes, irrigation sewage pipes and conductive pipes/hoses; wire and cable, such as power cables and jacketing; films, such as agricultural packaging, geomembrane foil and laminations; blow and injection molding, such as packaging, housing container and automotive; fiber, such as textile industrial non-woven; thermal insulation, such as construction, and Other, such as thermosets, thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) profiles and plastics. Its polymers products are offered under various brands, such as PRINTEX, AROSPERSE, HIBLACK, GAS BLACK, and LAMP BLACK.

The Company's printing products are used for various applications, including high-end packaging, such as liquid inks, UV curing, sheetfed and screen; packaging, such as liquid inks; display advertising, such as heatset, sheetfed and screen; publication (magazines), such as heatset, sheetfed, publication and gravure; special applications, such as screen water-based gravure UV curing; books, posters and brochures, such as sheetfed and UV curing, and newspaper, water-based flexo coldest. Its printing products are offered under brands, such as NEROX, PRINTEX, SPECIAL BLACK and HIBLACK. Its special applications product category includes applications, such as silicones, non-woven textile, building materials, battery electrodes metallurgical, agrochemicals and carbon brushes.

Rubber Carbon Black

The Rubber Carbon Black segment includes the Tires and Mechanical Rubber Goods (MRG) product categories. Its Tire product portfolio includes high reinforcing grades and semi-reinforcing grades. Along with standardized grades, it offers advanced grades designed to meet specific customer performance requirements, such as ECORAX grades designed to lower rolling resistance. It produces a range of MRG products for various end uses, including automotive production, construction, manufacture of wires and cables, as well as certain food and medical applications. Its MRG products includes various grades, such as standardized American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) furnace grades, specialized ASTM furnace grades, specialized non-ASTM furnace grades and rubber carbon blacks from special production processes lampblack (Durex O), and thermal black and gas black. Its MRG products are offered under various brands, such as PUREX, DUREX, CORAX, N990, CK 3 and PRINTEX.
