The Company's segments include the Greens Creek, Lucky Friday, Casa Berardi and San Sebastian units. The Company produces lead, zinc and bulk concentrates, which it markets to custom smelters and brokers, and unrefined bullion bars (dore) containing gold and silver, which are further refined before sale to precious metals traders. The Company is focused on its San Sebastian project; North Idaho's Silver Valley; Greens Creek unit on Alaska's Admiralty Island; the silver-producing district near Durango, Mexico; the Abitibi region of north-western Quebec, Canada; the Rock Creek and Montanore projects in northwestern Montana and the Creede district of Southwestern Colorado. The flotation concentrates produced at its Greens Creek and Lucky Friday units contain payable silver, zinc and lead, and the concentrates produced at Greens Creek contain payable gold.

The Greens Creek Unit

The Company, through its subsidiaries, owns Greens Creek mine, which is located on the Admiralty Island near Juneau in Southeast Alaska. The Greens Creek orebody contains silver, zinc, gold and lead, and lies within the Admiralty Island National Monument. The Greens Creek property included 440 unpatented lode-mining claims, 58 unpatented millsite claims, 17 patented lode claims and one patented mill site as of December 31, 2016. The project consists of the mine, an ore-concentrating mill, a tailings impoundment area, a ship-loading facility, camp facilities, a ferry dock and other related infrastructure.

The Greens Creek deposit is a polymetallic, stratiform sulfide deposit. The host rock consists of marine sedimentary and mafic to ultramafic volcanic and plutonic rocks. Its sulfide minerals include pyrite, sphalerite, galena and tetrahedrite/tennanite. Greens Creek is an underground mine, which produced approximately 2,100 to 2,300 tons of ore per day as of December 31, 2016. The Greens Creek ore processing facility includes a semi-autogenous grinding/ball (SAG/ball) mill grinding circuit to grind the run of mine ore to liberate the minerals and produce slurry suitable for differential flotation of mineral concentrates.

The Lucky Friday Unit
