Company Profile and Business Description for Boise Cascade

Boise Cascade Company, incorporated on July 26, 2004, is an integrated wood products manufacturer and building materials distributor with operations throughout the United States and one manufacturing facility in Canada. The Company is also a producer of engineered wood products (EWP) and plywood in North America. The Company operates through three segments: Wood Products, Building Materials Distribution, and Corporate and Other. The Company's products are used primarily in new residential construction, residential repair-and-remodeling projects, light commercial construction and industrial applications. The Company's subsidiaries include Boise Cascade Wood Products, L.L.C., Boise Cascade Building Materials Distribution, L.L.C., Boise Cascade Wood Products Holdings Corp., Chester Wood Products LLC and Moncure Plywood LLC.

Wood Products

The Company manufactures laminated veneer lumber (LVL), I-joists, and laminated beams, which are referred to as EWP. LVL and laminated beams are structural products used in applications, such as headers and beams. LVL is also used in the manufacture of I-joists, which are assembled by combining a vertical Web of oriented strand board (OSB) with top and bottom LVL or solid wood flanges. I-joists, which are used primarily in residential and commercial flooring and roofing systems and other structural applications. In addition, the Company manufactures structural, appearance, and industrial plywood panels. It also produces ponderosa pine lumber, studs and particleboard. As of December 31, 2016, the Wood Products segment operated six EWP facilities. Its two EWP facilities are located in Louisiana. As of December 31, 2016, it also operated nine plywood and veneer plants, five sawmills, and one particleboard plant.

Building Materials Distribution

The Company's Building Materials Distribution segment sells a range of building materials, including OSB, plywood and lumber (collectively commodities). It also sells general line items, such as siding, composite decking, metal products, insulation, roofing and EWP. The Company markets the building materials to retail lumberyards and home improvement centers. Its products are used in the construction of new residential housing, including single-family, multi-family, and manufactured homes, the repair and remodeling of existing housing, and the construction of light industrial and commercial buildings. The Company also markets its products to a range of industrial accounts, which use its products to assemble cabinets, doors, agricultural bins, crating, and other products used in industrial and construction applications. As of December 31, 2016, its Building Materials Distribution segment operated a network of 33 building materials distribution facilities throughout the United States. The Building Materials Distribution segment also operates a truss manufacturing plant.

The Company competes with Weyerhaeuser Company, Louisiana-Pacific Corporation, Georgia-Pacific, Roseburg Forest Products, BlueLinx Holdings Inc., Cedar Creek, OrePac and U.S. Lumber Group.
