SemGroup Corporation, incorporated on September 19, 2005, is a provider of gathering, transportation, storage, distribution, marketing and other midstream services primarily to producers, refiners of petroleum products and other market participants located in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions of the United States and Canada. The Company's segments include Crude Transportation; Crude Facilities; Crude Supply and Logistics; SemGas; SemCAMS; SemLogistics, SemMexico, and Corporate and Other. It also maintains and operates storage, terminal and marine facilities at Milford Haven in the United Kingdom that enable customers to supply petroleum products to markets in the Atlantic Basin. It also operates a network of liquid asphalt cement terminals throughout Mexico.
The Crude Transportation segment operates crude oil pipelines and truck transportation businesses in the United States. As of December 31, 2016, it owned a 460-mile crude oil gathering and transportation pipeline system with over 650,000 barrels of associated storage capacity in Kansas and northern Oklahoma that is connected to various third-party pipelines and refineries. It also owns the Wattenberg Oil Trunkline (WOT), a 75-mile, over 12-inch diameter crude oil gathering pipeline system that transports crude oil from production facilities in DJ Basin to the pipeline owned by White Cliffs Pipeline, L.L.C (White Cliffs). As of December 31, 2016, the WOT had a capacity of approximately 85,000 barrels per day, as well as 360,000 barrels of operational storage. As of December 31, 2016, it owned a crude oil trucking fleet of over 225 transport trucks and 235 trailers; Maurepas Pipeline, a project underway to build over three pipelines to service refineries in the Gulf Coast region, and owned ownership interest in White Cliffs, which owns a 527-mile pipeline, consisting of two 12-inch common carrier, crude oil pipelines, that transports crude oil from Platteville, Colorado to Cushing, Oklahoma (the White Cliffs Pipeline). It also owns ownership interest in Glass Mountain Pipeline, LLC (Glass Mountain), which owns a 215-mile crude oil pipeline in western and north central Oklahoma (the Glass Mountain Pipeline).
The Crude Facilities segment operates crude oil storage and terminal businesses in the United States. As of December 31, 2016, the Crude Facilities segment owned a crude oil storage facility in Cushing, Oklahoma with a capacity of over 7.6 million barrels, of which over 6.25 million barrels are leased to customers and 1.35 million barrels are used for crude oil operations, blending and marketing activities. As of December 31, 2016, it also owned a 30-lane crude oil truck unloading facility with 350,000 barrels of associated storage capacity in Platteville, Coloradom, which connects to the origination point of the White Cliffs Pipeline.
Crude Supply and Logistics
The Crude Supply and Logistics operates a crude oil marketing business, which utilizes its Crude Transportation and Crude Facilities assets for marketing purposes. As of December 31, 2016, additionally, the Crude Supply and Logistics segment owned approximately 61,800 barrels of crude oil storage capacity in Trenton and Stanley, North Dakota.
The SemLogistics segment owns independent petroleum products storage facility in the United Kingdom. The main activities of SemLogistics are the receipt, storage and redelivery of clean petroleum products and crude oil at the Milford Haven site. SemLogistics operates a tank storage business and offers build-bulk (importing small cargo, building volume and exporting larger cargo) and break-bulk (importing larger cargo and exporting smaller cargo) operations to its customers that transport products between a range of locations, including the Middle East, Asia, Europe, the United States, Central America and the west coast of Africa. As of December 31, 2016, SemLogistics' storage facility included approximately 8.7 million barrels of above ground storage tanks. As of December 31, 2016, the terminal had two deep water jetties, one of which accommodated vessels of over 165,000 dead weight tons. It also has access to Mainline Pipeline Limited (pipeline from Milford Haven to Manchester and Nottingham).
The SemCAMS segment owns and operates natural gas processing and gathering facilities in Alberta, Canada. The principal process performed at the processing plants is to remove contaminants and render the gas saleable to downstream pipelines and markets. At the sour gas plants, it also sweetens sour natural gas by removing sulfur. As of December 31, 2016, SemCAMS operated and owned varying working interests in two sour natural gas processing plants known as the Kaybob South No. 3 plant (the K3 Plant) and the Kaybob Amalgamated plant (the KA Plant); two sweet gas plants known as the West Fox Creek plant and the West Whitecourt plant, and a network of approximately 620 miles of natural gas gathering and transportation pipelines. As of December 31, 2016, the sour gas plants were dually connected to two long-haul natural gas pipelines that serve Canada and the United States. The plants also load certain products for transportation by truck and railcar.
The SemMexico segment provides a range of liquid asphalt cement products and product application services to the Mexican market. SemMexico purchases, produces, stores and distributes asphalt products throughout Mexico. SemMexico is the asphalt distributer in Mexico and, in addition to direct asphalt cement sales, further processes asphalt materials in combination with other raw materials to produce value-added products. The products, such as polymer modified asphalts and asphalt emulsions are sold to road contractors and government agencies. As of December 31, 2016, SemMexico operated an in-country network of 13 asphalt cement terminals and modification facilities and two marine terminals.
The SemGas segment provides natural gas gathering and processing services. SemGas owns and operates gathering systems and processing plants in Oklahoma and Texas. SemGas aggregates gas supplies from the wellhead and provides various services to producers that condition the wellhead gas production for downstream markets. SemGas owns and operates approximately 1,000 miles of gathering pipelines in Oklahoma and Texas. As of December 31, 2016, SemGas had three plant facilities in northern Oklahoma with a combined processing capacity of approximately 565 million cubic feet per day. As of December 31, 2016, SemGas also had a processing plant located in Sherman, Texas, with a processing capacity of 30 million cubic feet per day.
