Company Profile and Business Description for Chemours

The Chemours Company, incorporated on February 18, 2014, is a provider of performance chemicals. The Company operates through three segments: Titanium Technologies, Fluoroproducts and Chemical Solutions. The Titanium Technologies segment is a producer of titanium dioxide (TiO2). The Fluoroproducts segment is a provider of fluoroproducts, including refrigerants and industrial fluoropolymer resins. The Chemical Solutions segment is a North American provider of industrial chemicals used in gold production, oil and gas, water treatment and other industries. It delivers customized solutions with a range of industrial and specialty chemical products for markets, including plastics and coatings, refrigeration and air conditioning, general industrial, mining and oil refining. Its products include titanium dioxide, refrigerants, industrial fluoropolymer resins and a portfolio of mining and industrial chemicals, including sodium cyanide. As of December 31, 2016, the Company operates 26 production facilities located in 10 countries.

Fluoroproducts Segment

The Fluoroproducts segment provides fluorine-based, material solutions. It produces products that have properties, such as temperature and chemical resistance, and di-electric properties. It is a provider of fluoroproducts, such as refrigerants and industrial fluoropolymer resins and derivatives. It sells fluoroproducts through two product groups: Fluorochemicals and Fluoropolymers. Fluorochemicals products include refrigerants, air conditioning, foam expansion agents, propellants and fire extinguishants. The Company also operates in hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) refrigerants under the name of, Freon. It is also engaged in the development of sustainable technologies like Opteon, a line of low Global Warming Potential (GWP) hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerants, which also have a zero ozone depletion footprint.

Fluoropolymers products include industrial resins, coatings, and other downstream products. It serves a range of industrial and end user applications spanning from wearable electronics to automotive, network cables, pipe lining and gaskets, among others. The products properties include corrosion resistance, non-stick adhesion, thermal stability, and extreme temperature resistance. The Fluoropolymers products are sold under the brand names, including Teflon, Viton, Krytox, and Nafion.

Teflon coatings and additives are used in multiple end products, including paints, fabrics, carpets, clothing, and other household applications. Teflon coatings, resins, additives and films are also used in a range of industrial products. Its fluoroelastomer products, sold under the Viton brand name, are used in automotive, consumer electronics, chemical processing, oil and gas, petroleum refining and transportation, and aircraft and aerospace applications. Its Krytox branded lubricants are used in a range of industrial applications, including bearings, electric motors, and gearboxes. It sells membranes under the brand name Nafion, which are used in fuel cells, energy flow battery storage, transportation, stationary power, and medical tubing.

Chemical Solutions Segment

The Chemical Solutions segment comprises a portfolio of industrial chemical businesses operating in the Americas. The products are used as raw materials and catalysts for various industries, including gold production, oil and gas, water treatment, electronics and automotive. It is a provider of sodium cyanide in the Americas through its Mining Solutions business. It operates at three production facilities in North America, which sells products and solutions through two product groups: Mining Solutions and Performance Chemicals & Intermediates. The Mining Solutions product group includes its sodium cyanide, hydrogen cyanide, and potassium cyanide product lines. The Performance Chemicals & Intermediates comprises Methylamines, Glycolic Acid, and Vazo product lines.

Titanium Technologies Segment

The Titanium Technologies segment is a manufacturer of titanium dioxide (TiO2). TiO2 is a pigment used to deliver whiteness, opacity and protection from sunlight in applications, such as architectural and industrial coatings, flexible and rigid plastic packaging, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) window profiles, laminate papers, coated paper and coated paperboard used for packaging. It sells TiO2 products under the Ti-Pure brand name. It operates four TiO2 production facilities: two in the United States, one in Mexico and one in Taiwan. In addition, it also owns a repackaging and distribution facility in Belgium and operate a mineral sands mining operation in Starke, Florida. It is a supplier of quality calcined zircon in North America, focused on the precision investment casting (PIC) industry, foundry and specialty applications, and ceramics. Its staurolite blasting abrasives, sold as Starblast, are used in steel preparation and maintenance, and paint removal. As of December 31, 2017 it had a TiO2 capacity of 1.25 million metric tons per year.
