BWX Technologies, Inc., incorporated on March 8, 2010, is a specialty manufacturer of nuclear components and a service provider. The Company's businesses focus on the design, engineering and manufacture of precision naval nuclear components, reactors and nuclear fuel for the United States Government. Its segments include Nuclear Operations, Technical Services, Nuclear Energy and Other. It provides uranium processing and environmental site restoration services, as well as a range of products and services to customers in the nuclear power industry. Its Nuclear Operations segment engineers, designs and manufactures precision naval nuclear components and reactors for the United States Department of Energy (DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. The Technical Services segment provides various services to the United States Government. Its Nuclear Energy segment designs, licenses, manufactures and delivers commercial nuclear steam generators, pressure vessels, reactor components, heat exchangers and other auxiliary equipment. The Company's Other segment includes the mPower program.
The Nuclear Operations segment specializes in the design and manufacture of close-tolerance and equipment for nuclear applications. In addition, the Company is a manufacturer of critical nuclear components, fuels and assemblies for government and other uses. The Company supplies research reactor fuel elements for colleges, universities and national laboratories. It also converts or downblend high-enriched uranium into low-enriched fuel for uses in commercial reactors to generate electricity. The Company is also engaged in the receipt, storage, characterization, dissolution, recovery and purification of a range of uranium-bearing materials. All phases of uranium downblending and uranium recovery are provided at the Company's Lynchburg, Virginia and Erwin, Tennessee sites.
The Company, through Technical Services segment, provides various services to the United States Government, including uranium processing, environmental site restoration services and management and operating services for various United States Government-owned facilities. These services are provided primarily to the DOE, including the NNSA, the Office of Nuclear Energy, the Office of Science, and the Office of Environmental Management, and the Department of Defense and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Company's principal operations include managing and operating nuclear weapons production facilities; managing and operating environmental management sites; managing spent nuclear fuel and transuranic waste for the DOE; providing critical skills and resources for DOE sites, and managing and operating space flight hardware and test facilities for NASA. The Company manages and operates nuclear and national security operations for the DOE and the NNSA, primarily through its joint ventures.
The Company, through the Nuclear Energy segment, designs, licenses, manufactures and delivers commercial nuclear steam generators, pressure vessels, reactor components, heat exchangers and other auxiliary equipment, including containers for the storage of spent nuclear fuel and other high-level waste. In addition, the Nuclear Energy segment offers services for steam generators and balance of plant equipment, as well as non-destructive examination and tooling/repair solutions for other plant systems and components. The Nuclear Energy segment also offers engineering and licensing services for new nuclear plant designs. The Nuclear Energy segment specializes in performing prototype design work coupled with manufacturing integration. The design, engineering and other capabilities of this segment include steam separation equipment design and development; thermal-hydraulic design of reactor plant components; commercial nuclear fuel manufacturing and design; nuclear fuel handling system design, manufacturing, delivery, installation and commissioning; material procurement of tubing, forgings and weld wire, and metallographic and chemical analysis. Its Other segment includes the mPower program.
