List of 1.25x Leveraged Equity ETFs

Updated May 24, 2019
While investors expect to gain through positive returns and are good to absorb the negative losses, a few bravehearts may also be willing to go for the bigger push. Leveraged financial instruments, like leveraged equity exchange-traded funds (ETF), attempt to magnify the returns (as well as the losses) for an investment in the mentioned proportion. For instance, a leveraged equity ETF that has a leverage factor of 1.25 is expected to generate 1.25 times the daily returns generated by the underlying benchmark index the ETF follows. For example, if the 1.25x leveraged ETF follows the S&P 500 index and the latter produces a return of 10 percent over certain period of time, then the ETF is expected to produce around 12.5% (that is, 1.25 times of the returns produced by the benchmark index). Such leveraged ETFs achieve this magnification of returns using uses financial derivative securities like futures. One can find a variety of 1.25 times leveraged ETFs as based on the broader market index like the S&P 500 index, the small cap sector, mid cap sector or the large cap sector. (See the List of S&P 500 ETFs.)
